Why did you choose to run for Mayor?
I was uncomfortable with the direction we were heading; I could see a lack of vision and leadership.
If I am elected the to be the next Mayor of Brant County, I will be more present in the community and accessible to the constituents.
In your opinion, what are the most pressing issues facing the municipality?
There has been a lot of request for additional services in the county. It would be dishonest and misleading to say to the citizens of the County (and potential newcomers) that we can offer the same level of community services that are offered in the GTA.
In my campaign to be the next Mayor of the County of Brant I hope to present a realistic scenario where real conversation can be had and progress made.
If elected, what would your top priorities be and why?
I will lead a council that is conciliatory and works as a team with the municipal staff to restore a working harmony to the County of Brant. This will result in better service for all.
At present, with our growing population, we are severely underrepresented for healthcare services in the County of Brant. I will do everything in my power to alleviate this.
I will work towards industrial development along the Hwy 403 corridor to bring stable employment to the County. If elected Mayor, I will lead a Council that that is open to attracting business to the county.
What are some of the issues or concerns that you have heard about from residents?
As I speak with my fellow citizens in the County, healthcare (or lack of) is a constantly recuring topic.
The other is lack of employment opportunity in the county, forcing many citizens long commutes.
How would you improve the relationship between your municipal neighbours?
If I was elected Mayor, I would establish a roundtable made up of representatives of the other municipalities to discuss this topic, to further a working co-operative relationship.
What are your thoughts on the Strong Mayor Powers? Would you use them? If so, why?
I would approach this topic with caution, because Strong Mayor Powers defeat the purpose of a good working elected council. I am running for Mayor to bring a co operative and working spirit to council. Strong Mayor Powers go against the spirit of why I am running for Mayor.
How would you describe yourself to the constituency?
I have lived here all my life, I am a concerned citizen, by running for Mayor, I feel I can make a tangible contribution to our community.
